A 17-year-old male was remanded in custody for four days after being at the centre of a mass brawl on Larnaca’s Finikoudes beach on Saturday night.
He has been charged with affray, breach of the peace and malicious damage, among other similar crimes.
Police were informed of a fight taking place on Finikoudes beach at around 9.40pm on Saturday. When they arrived, they found that the people involved had already left the scene.
Investigations found that around 10 young people had “got involved without reasonable cause” with five third-country nationals, possibly tourists, who were dining in a restaurant nearby.
The restaurant’s CCTV footage showed the 17-year-old at the centre of the fight, and as such, an arrest warrant was issued against him.
He was arrested at around 8.30pm on Sunday.
The Larnaca municipality had said it was “intensely displeased” with the incident.
“Unfortunately, the measures determined did not prove effective and the same incidents unfolded,” it said.
Another 17-year-old boy had been hospitalised and required surgery after being involved in another fight on Finikoudes beach around a month ago.
