Police on Tuesday issued instructions for traffic arrangements for the October 28 school parades that will take place in all towns on Wednesday morning.
In Nicosia, due to the parade, and the liturgy at Saint John’s Cathedral at the Archbishopric, as of Tuesday midnight parking will be prohibited in the following areas:
The Archbishopric Square, Korais Street, Constantinos Paleologos Avenue, Stasinos Avenue – from the junction with Boumpoulina Street until Eleftheria Square, Byron Avenue, Michalakis Karaolis Street and Evagoras Avenue.
The following roads will be closed to traffic on Wednesday from 9.30am:
Stasinos Avenue – from the junction with Boumpoulina Street until its junction with Eleftheria Square, Byron Avenue, Homer Avenue, Michalakis Karaolis Street, Demosthenis Severis Avenue – from the traffic lights towards Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue.
The following parking places will be available to the public:
– OCHI roundabout
– The moat below the Town Hall
– Near the Paphos Gate Fire Station
After 9.30am city buses, (OSEL) coming from Strovolos – Lakatamia – Anthoupolis – Parissinos – Engomi – Agios Dometios – Agios Pavlos will drop off/collect passengers at Museum Avenue.
Buses from the Pallouriotissa areas – Kaimakli, Aglandjia –Dasoupolis – Latsia will drop off passengers on the Kaniggas Bridge next OCHI.
In the Morphou district, between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday, traffic from Troodos will be diverted through the old Nicosia-Troodos road, from Kedros restaurant. Traffic from Nicosia will be diverted through the Temvria-Korakou-Evrychou road. The main road will be closed to from 10.30 am on Wednesday until the end of the parade. The parking lot outside the Cathedral of St George, will also be closed.
In the Paphos district, between 9am and until the end of the parade, the following roads and areas will be closed to traffic:
Griva Digenis Avenue, Kennedy Square, Christodoulos Galatopoulos Street, Kostis Palamas Square, Evagoras Pallikarides Avenue, Cathedral Square, Major N. Papageorgiou Street.
The following parking places will be available to the public:
-Karavela parking space
-the former Nicolaideion high school.
In Limassol, the parade will take place on Makarios Avenue, which will be closed between 11am and 2pm, form the Agios Nikolaos roundabout until the junction of the Makarios Avenue traffic lights with Petros Tsiros Street.
Available for parking will be all the spaces south and north of Makarios III Avenue and the parking places in the Lanitio High School and Lyceum, which drivers may access through Platonos Street.
In Larnaca, the following roads will be closed to traffic from 10.30am:
Athinon Avenue – where the parade will take place, part of Grivas Dighenis Avenue, part of Makarios Avenue – from the junction with Costis Palamas, Zenonos Kitieos, Vasileos Pavlou and part of Grigoris Afxentiou.
During the festivities, members of the public should remain on the pavements to avoid obstructing those marching in the parade and follow police instructions, an announcement said.
