
A woman found tied up and dead in her apartment in Larnaca on Sunday night died from asphyxiation due to inhaling blood and a head wound, state pathologists said first thing on Monday.
The 36-year-old Moldovan woman, Daniella Rosci, who holds a Romanian passport, was found on the floor of her bedroom near the Mackenzy area of Larnaca.
According to the police the woman was tied up, had bruises to the face and wounds on her head. She was found by two friends who had been looking for her, still wearing clothes from Saturday evening.
When the woman did not answer their calls, the women her apartment and when she did not answer called a locksmith, with whose help they managed to get in.
A police officer said on Sunday night that the woman appeared to have died within the previous 12 hours. The way the woman was found, he said, pointed to a criminal act so the police are investigating a case of murder.
So far eight people who know Rosci have been questioned, police said.
State pathologists Nicolas Charalambous and Sofocles Sophocleous went to the scene and carried out an autopsy on site. Charalambos said the murder was carried out between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Sunday.
The body was transferred to the Larnaca general hospital where the two pathologists continued investigations until 4am on Monday.
They took evidence from the body which has been sent for further tests.
The Moldovan was living permanently in Cyprus and worked as a nail technician.
