THE parents of three Turkish Cypriot teenagers have reportedly filed a complaint to the United Nations after armed Greek Cypriot police officers allegedly searched the youths in Pyla, Kibris reported on Friday.
According to the Turkish Cypriot newspaper the three were on their bicycles and going from Pyla, where they live, to a Larnaca gym.
The plain clothed police officers allegedly stopped them and searched them.
Pyla is part of a UN buffer zone and although officers are allowed to be present, they cannot carry weapons.
Turkish Cypriot Pyla community leader Netzdet Ermetal said police can stop and question people as stipulated in the law, however, the use of guns was unacceptable.
He told Halkin Sesi newspaper that the three youths were owed an apology.
Greek Cypriot police did not respond to a Cyprus Mail request for comment.
