A 39-year-old Azeri man was arrested and detained on Friday afternoon, after he was caught shoplifting at a Larnaca store, a police report said.
According to the report, the man, along with a woman and another man, went to a store in Stratigou Timayia avenue in Larnaca, ostensibly to shop.
When the 39-year-old and the woman exited the store, the alarm went off, and the store’s private security apprehended the three individuals.
Walking them to the manager’s office, the woman disposed of various items she had been carrying in her purse and fled the scene, while the 39-year-old also started throwing away items he had stolen.
The man was found to have stolen clothing items worth €196, while the woman tried to remove various items worth €144 from the store.
At the manager’s office, the 39-year-old admitted to the shoplifting incident but denied working with the woman and another man.
Police was called to the scene and took the man in custody.
In a subsequent search, an 8.5-centimetre switchblade was found on the Azeri’s person.
