The videos depict the marine life of the Zenobia dive site

By Evie Andreou

THE public has been invited to vote for the two best videos depicting the marine life of the Zenobia, ship that sank off Larnaca in 1980 and has become one of the best wreck dive sites in the region.

The competition is part of the Zenobia week, taking place between June 23 and 30, which aims at the international promotion of the wreck.

The Larnaca tourism board (ETAP) said the Zenobia, that was loaded with 108 lorries, refrigeration units, toys, food as well as animals and sank on her maiden voyage, has become an exceptional artificial reef, hosting thousands of species of fish and other marine life and that was why the competition seeks to record this impressive world and present it to the wider public.

The public may cast their vote on one of nine videos, published anonymously on the ETAP’s Facebook page. Public vote accounts for 30 per cent of the result with 70 per cent being decided by the Zenobia Week Videography Committee.

The two winners will be announced on June 29 and awarded during the Zenobia Conference a day later.

Other events during the week include free cruises to the Zenobia wreck site, underwater sports and recreation activities such as submersible scooters.
