Customs seized 8kg of Old Holborn tobacco from a house in Larnaca on Saturday afternoon, they said.
Acting on a tip-off, officers in cooperation with police raided the house of a Greek Cypriot, finding 160 packets of 50g of the tobacco.
They established the tobacco had been brought through the north from the mixed buffer-zone village of Pyla. The stash was worth 1,680 euros in lost taxes.
The homeowner was fined 2,000 euros in an out-of-court settlement.
