The Nicosia-Larnaca highway was closed for more than two hours on Sunday evening from the Rizoelia roundabout until Koshi after a cow wandered onto the road and was hit by a number of cars.
The incident happened shortly before 9pm when a car travelling from Koshi to Larnaca hit the cow, which was thrown into the opposite lane where it was run over by another three cars.
The first car was severely damaged and the other three slightly damaged after hitting the animal. None of the drivers or passengers were seriously injured but an 11-year-old boy was later treated for a sprained neck.
The cow, through its tag, was traced to a farmer in Aradippou, which had gone missing on July 22.
The lane of the highway where the animal lay dead, was closed until around 11pm when the animal was removed by municipal and veterinary authorities.
