Larnaca’s Laiki Geitonia (Old Quarter) is home to a number of quaint buildings constructed of old stone dating as far back as the 1800s, and in terms of continued popularity and reliability no bar has stood the test of time more than Savino Rock Bar. Behind the seafront of Phinikoudes, the small shack-like structure is home to a warm ambience, affordable drinks and good times.
The inside is the part with the most character, with memorabilia, photographs and ornaments dotted around the place from all corners of the world which will leave you scanning across the room the first time you visit.
Wooden stools surround high old barrel tables in two small rooms, as well as two bar areas. Yet, while indoors is the best spot the rest of the year, the vast outdoor area is the only place to be with temperatures searing and humidity showing no signs of letting up.
There is no shortage of choice when it comes to drinks; Savino boasts one of the widest selections of draught and bottled beers in town; anything from Duvel to Kopparberg, as well as plenty on tap, like Somersby, KEO, Guinness and many more.
The music played inside tends to be rock, but not too heavy. In its earlier days, it used to attract simply those who loved that particular type of music, but its rise to popularity means that it is adored by people of all interests and genres.
The staff are very nice and upbeat, and know their beers inside out in order to help you make the right choice.
Such is the popularity of this place these days that there will likely be no decent spot in the outside area from 9pm onwards, especially on weekends, so it is highly advised that you get down there a bit early to avoid disappointment.
There used to be live music hosted once a week but due to its limited size and growing popularity, the owner created Savino Live just next door which is a big hall that houses live local bands.
