Bar review: Dylan’s Bar, Larnaca

While rock bars such as Savino and Stone Age are synonymous with Larnaca’s famous old quarter of the Laiki Geitonia, that’s not to say that the other bars in the area are not able to compete.

Dylan’s Bar has become part of the town’s fabric in the popular old square. Dating back to 1997, it has become renowned for its authenticity when it comes to live music and its wide range of beers at good prices.
It is situated in what used to be an old house which dates back to the early 19th century, just off the Phinikoudes promenade. However, from the moment you enter the bar, you are immediately drawn to the present with its sleek wooden floors, American-style bar stools and framed photos of musical legends of various times.

It boasts a wide choice of both local and international beers, 60 to be precise. For those who have a hard time deciding which one to pick, the staff are always willing to lend their expert advice as to which one will suit your needs. A host of cocktails are also available, though most are slowly accepting that the summer season is over and stick to either beer or slightly warmer spirits like rum and whiskey.

Dylan’s is host to a number of live music nights which tend to attract a healthy crowd. The bar manages to embrace the charm of what a traditional bar is meant to feel like. Music fans, especially those who like to promote local bands, will feel right at home.

There is a well-sized indoor space for such events and one must go there slightly earlier to make sure of getting a good seat for the events.

The bar now serves shisha which has become a popular pastime at Dylan’s, on top of its vast beer collection which is best enjoyed in the outdoor area.

Even though the temperature might have dropped significantly since the summer, the outdoor area is still popular on weekends where people can get some fresh air and get a feel for the bustling square.
