A family of nine were rushed to Larnaca hospital early on Monday suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, the fire service said.
Firefighters were asked by the ambulance service at 5.23am to examine the possibility of a gas leak at a home in a Larnaca village after nine people were rushed to hospital. Three were semi-conscious while the rest felt dizzy.
They were rushed to Larnaca and Limassol hospitals for treatment.
Following an investigation and taking into account the medical tests, the fire service said there had not been a gas leak at the home and that the family had fallen ill from carbon monoxide poisoning produced by the fireplace and a gas heater.
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that has no smell or taste.
Breathing it causes illness and could be lethal if a person is exposed to high levels.
Carbon monoxide is the cause of death of many people around the globe each year.
According to NHS UK, symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are not always obvious, particularly during low-level exposure.
A tension-type headache is the most common symptom of mild carbon monoxide poisoning while other people could also feel dizziness, nausea and vomiting, tiredness and confusion, stomach pain, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.
