
Motorcyclist suffers serious injury in crash
A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Slovakia suffered serious head injuries early yesterday after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a pick-up truck in Larnaca.
A 23-year-old Ukrainian woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, broke her arm and was being treated at Larnaca hospital.
The incident took place at around 4.50am on the Meneou-Pervolia road, when at a bend, the vehicle driven by a 64-year-old man, collided with the motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction.
The pair were thrown off the motorcycle and were rushed to hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, the 32-year-old was transferred to Nicosia general hospital.
The driver of the pick-up was not hurt.
A breathalyzer test on the car driver came up negative, reports said, while blood was taken from the 32-year-old to check whether he had consumed alcohol.
Police said they located a helmet in the accident scene, which they believe was worn by the woman. It appears the 32-year-old was not wearing a helmet, they said.
