A 35-year-old woman from the UK was remanded in custody for one day on Thursday for allegedly taking her eight-year old son out of the country without his father’s consent.
The case was reported to police on July 23, by the 51-year-old former partner of the suspect and father of the boy, after she reportedly informed him through a text message that she would travel to the UK for family reasons and would take the boy with her.
The father, who allegedly did not give permission for his son to travel outside the country, reported a possible kidnapping by his former partner to Larnaca CID.
After verifying that she and her son had left the country for the UK, an arrest warrant was issued against her and her name was put in the stop list. She was arrested on Wednesday night after a tip –off that she was back on the island.
Reportedly she admitted to the police that she had intended to pack up her belongings and return to England to her son and live there permanently.
She claimed, reports said, that she only travelled with the boy without the father’s consent because she knew her former partner would not allow it.
The court heard that police would look into all the claims the suspect has made when it came to the reasons for her actions.
