Two slightly injured in ‘drive by’ shooting

Larnaca police are investigating what appeared to be a ‘drive-by shooting’ at a wedding in Ormidhia on Saturday night in which a 20-year-old girl and a 61-year-old man were injured but not seriously.

According to a report on the Cyprus News Agency, Xylotymbou police picked up 20 shells from a hunting gun between the centre square and the ‘Vattainas’ exit from the village.
Officers from Larnaca CID went to the scene on Saturday night to collect statements about the car that was seen at the time of the incident when a wedding reception was ongoing. They suspect the culprit or culprits had a grievance with someone at the wedding, possibly the couple getting married.

Around 20 shots were fired from the car, hitting the young woman and the older man who both had been visiting friends and were sitting on a patio nearby. The girl was hit on the cheek just underneath her eye and the man was hit on the right side of his chest. They were both treated at Larnaca general hospital’s first aid department and released.
