Roads will be closed in the centre of Larnaca following a fire which caused “catastrophic” damage to a listed building, the Larnaca municipality said on Tuesday.
Sections of Mehmet Ali Street, Selim Street and Ahmet Kenan Street in the Skala neighbourhood will all be closed to traffic until further notice, after initial examinations at the site had, according to the municipality, “highlighted the seriousness and danger of the situation”.
Additionally, the municipality said, pedestrians are “strictly prohibited” from entering the closed sections of the road.
A fire broke out at a building on Mehmet Ali Streetat around 3.40am on Sunday.
The building belongs to the Turkish Cypriot property management service and had previously been used by the Larnaca municipality as a fine arts school.
