The Larnaca bar scene is no longer as one-track minded as it once was with a wider of selection of bars popping up around town. Two extremes of rock bars and brightly lit dance bars used to dominate downtown Larnaca but a new trend of more artisan establishments is helping to a new dimension. One such place is Barrel House Bar located near Ermou street.
Hidden away in a backstreet, Barrel House has managed to create its own space as it aims to provide a fresh alternative to what the town had been used to for decades.
In terms of originality of drinks, this place earns top marks. There are few better places in the town at the moment in terms of beer selection as well as uniqueness of cocktails. With well over 50 imported bottled beers from across the globe, just from what the naked eye could see behind the bar, there is certainly no shortage of choice. With a range of sweet, fruity, strong and light beers, it might take you a while to make your order.
Rather than a selection of the most common cocktails, the bar staff have come up with a unique list of their own creations. For example, you could try a Chelada – made up of lager, tequila, fresh lime juice and celery salt. Or a Granny Smith, which is comprised of Sailor Jerry rum, cider, cinnamon and dried apple.
In contrast to the attention to detail to the drinks, the interior is far from extravagant. There is a simple feel with wooden chairs and tables dotted around.
While cocktails and beer take centre stage at Barrel House, there is also a good selection of food to go with one’s beverage. As well as good-sized meals like burgers and pork chops there are also some excellent platters to choose from.
The music tends to be a mix between rock, jazz and funk while there is also the occasional live band playing. The bar also holds open days in regard to beer and music in the form of barbeques and drink-tasting events.
