Bar review: Harry’s Inn Garden Bar, Larnaca

Away from the busyness of the Phinikoudes, in a quiet Larnaca back street lies a newly developed garden bar which offers a very different experience to the large majority of bars in town.

Still close to the town centre but hidden away somewhere near the main shopping street is Harry’s Inn, a small, family-run bar which is a welcome addition to the bar scene in Larnaca. Some may remember Harry’s Inn as a small Bed & Breakfast which existed for many years prior to its eventual closure a few years ago.

The outdoor area has been renovated by a young couple and it is now being run as a small bar which also serves great food. It is a very inviting space with wooden floors and plenty of plants and trees dotted around the establishment and is isolated from the loud sound of the town’s traffic.

And, especially at night, there is a very local and warm vibe to the place, somewhere you are made to feel welcome both by the owners and the other drinkers.

In terms of drinks, it may not have the wide-ranging exuberant mixes that are found in some of the upper class spots in town, but nevertheless it offers a wide range of both local and imported beers as well as some of the better known cocktails.

It opens at 8am from when a wide variety of traditional and slightly non-traditional breakfasts are served. They include the typical English breakfast, American style pancakes with maple syrup, as well as both hot and cold Cypriot breakfasts. While they all sound inviting, there is also the healthy option of fresh fruits. The prices of the breakfasts are a very reasonable €5-7, and are all served with either tea or coffee.

The bar has its very own chef who prepares all of the dishes with a lot of care. Despite being just a small bar rather than a restaurant, its food puts a lot of other eateries to shame in terms of taste, value for money and portion size.

Do not expect to be wowed by flamboyant furniture or incredible décor. However, the local feel and the homely touch of the establishment make it well worth a visit for a quiet drink, or meal, with friends and family.
