A 33-year-old public relations officer from Ukraine was handed a two month prison sentence suspended for three years on Wednesday along with a €1,400 fine for driving at over 200 kph.
Larnaca district court heard the case. The incident took place on Sunday, the defendant Mykola Lytvynvnko was driving on the Limassol Nicosia highway at 201 kph instead of the permitted 100 at 8:20pm.
When stopped by police he said “I’m sorry I was rushing to go to the airport to pick up my father.”
Judge Maria Loizou said this was not an excuse but nevertheless Lytvynko had shown remorse and respect towards authorities as he appeared in court on his own initiative despite the fact he had been released.
The defendant works for a private company in Kiev.
