Three students were remanded for eight days on Monday after they arrived in Cyprus with 12 kilos of cocaine on a flight from Dubai to Larnaca airport.
The Nigerian nationals aged 24, 26 and 28 arrived on Sunday.
The 26-year-old had a plastic bag stitched into his shirt carrying 3.5 kilos of cocaine, Drug Squad representative Stelios Sergides said while the eldest had a carry on plastic bag containing three boxes of chocolate.
Inside, there were egg shaped items that held a total of 4.4 kilos of the drug.
The 24-year-old used the same scheme to bring in the remaining load into Cyprus.
The three were arrested on the spot and are being investigated for illegal possession and intent to supply 12.3 kilos of a Class A drug.
According to Stergides, the suspects are making a wide array of claims which will be investigated.
“Based on information and facts, it is believed the suspects are members of a criminal gang importing drugs to Cyprus,” he said.
“More investigations are expected to take place and Interpol’s help will be asked in relation to the trip they made.”
Police are searching for people who may work with them both within and out of Cyprus.
