Over a dozen flights in and out of Cyprus affected by Greek air strike (Updated: additional flights affected)

A total of 16 flights to and from Cypriot airports to Greece have been affected by a four-hour work stoppage by Greek air traffic controllers on Wednesday, Hermes Airports said.

The strike is set from 2pm to 6pm.

Hermes spokesman Adamos Aspris told the Cyprus News Agency they had received notification of the stoppage on Tuesday night.

“Based on current data, it seems it will affect a significant number of flights to and from Greece,” he said. In total 16 flights were affected, of which nine were  departures and seven arrivals.

Of these 16 flights, 12 concerned Larnaca airport and four Paphos airport.

“It is expected that there will be changes in flight times with some carried out either before the start or after the end of the strike in Greece,” he added.

Aspris said that on Tuesday night, the affected airlines were trying to contact all passengers with the rescheduled flight times.

“According to the information we have, we have almost completed the update process for passengers  travelling today,” he said.

He called on any passengers due to depart from Greece between 2pm and 6pm to communicate with their airline to have up-to-the-minute information about their new flight time.

Hermes will monitor the situation and keep passengers informed, Aspris said.
